This course is a quick-start guide to learning to read medical Chinese in the shortest possible amount of time, with the most effective and efficient approaches.
Following the principle of "an inch wide but a mile deep", you'll be quickly led through topics such as the basic nature of the Chinese language and its grammar, Chinese characters and their etymology, and how to learn them, and then dive right in almost immediately learning to read Chinese from actual Chinese medical texts, using the book "Statements of Fact in Chinese Medicine" by Bob Flaws.
We'll cover various special topics along the way, including understanding issues with various translations, improving your understanding of diagnostic and therapeutic concepts through language study, and most importantly, show you how to keep learning on your own, and various directions you can go in.
The goal is to be as streamlined as possible, to bring a laser-like focus to the specific task of learning to read medical Chinese, with the specific goal of improving clinical skills through better understanding of fundamental terms and concepts, and the fundamental logic of Chinese medicine as expressed in the language it was composed in.
Learning Objectives
1. Understand the nature of Chinese language, grammar, characters, and etymology.
2. Begin reading fundamental statements of Chinese medicine in the original language.
3. Develop a deeper understanding of fundamental concepts of Chinese medicine, both diagnostic and therapeutic, through language study and reading them in Chinese, with the goal of getting better results clinically, faster and with less effort and more certainty.
4. Have the tools to continue learning on your own, including pursuing various specialized areas.

About the Instructor
Jason Ginsberg, LAc, DACM became interested in Chinese language, arts, and culture at an early age. This led to him taking classes at the China Institute in Chinese calligraphy, language, taijiquan, and qigong, later becoming involved in Chinese martial arts and Chinese classical music as well, and majoring in East Asian studies at NYU with a concentration on Classical Chinese language and literature.
He graduated from Pacific College, where he did two semesters of independent study in Chinese language with Doug Wile, and became a licensed acupuncturist in 2002, and began teaching Chinese medicine and Chinese language classes at Touro College in 2004, and started teaching at Pacific College in 2008.
He has been in private practice since 2002, and lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
